Traditional communication has the luxury of being an afterthought, a tool to clarify the existing structure provided by general documentation. Agile does not have that structure. Therefore, its approaches must be different.

Face-to-Face Communication

One of the main differences in Agile communication practices is the emphasis on a communication hierarchy: not all forms of communication are not equal. We describe this in the sixth Agile principle, which states that the “most efficient and effective method” of communication is face-to-face contact . Alistair Cockburn pushed and expanded this idea in 2002 with this graph:
